He formerly served as the physician-in-charge of the world's second and China's first face transplant surgery (allogeneic facial composite tissue transplantation), was responsible for the donor team, and was a core member of the face transplant technical research team. He was awarded the First Prize of the 2010 Military Medical Achievement Award for "Basic Research and Clinical Application of Allogeneic Facial Transplantation."
